Call for Nominations
The KMS Nominating Committee annually seeks and considers recommendations for nominees from the general membership, component/county societies and specialty societies. This year, the Committee will be present a slate of nominees for the following Board positions: President, President-elect, one Central District Trustee, one Eastern District Trustee, one Western District Trustee, and two AMA Delegates.
The Nominating Committee is charged with selecting nominees who possess the skills, experience, integrity and commitment necessary to enable the Board of Trustees to properly exercise its governance and oversight role in the best interests of the Society. In making its nominations, the Committee seeks to work toward a Board composition that is diverse and broadly representative of the Society membership, and which also reflects geographic location, specialty and practice type.
Physicians whose names are submitted to the Nominating Committee as possible nominees to serve on the Board of Trustees must be members-in-good standing of KMS. Individuals may be nominated by a colleague, component/county medical society or state specialty society; self-nominations will also be accepted.

Pharmacy Protocols
During the 2022 Legislative session, pharmacists sought statutory authority that would have allowed them to independently diagnose and treat influenza, streptococcal pharyngitis, urinary tract infection, COVID and other conditions as identified and approved exclusively by the Board of Pharmacy. The pharmacists’ bill had broad support in the Senate, where the bill originated and appeared to be advancing rather rapidly.
KMS opposed the proposal and sought an amendment that struck that language and instead authorized a joint committee of pharmacists and physicians to determine if a limited number of conditions can be independently assessed and treated adherent to a medically-directed protocol. Over the last year, the committee has met and established protocols for testing and treatment of influenza, strep and UTI.
Pharmacies'/pharmacists' eligibility to provide these services pursuant to the protocol is dependent upon completion of specific training procedures for each protocol. Additionally, each patient that utilizes services under a protocol is required to provided a written summary of their care with a notice to their primary care provider, if one is identified.
These strictly constructed protocols must be adhered to, and any deviation should be reported to both the Kansas Board of Healing Arts and the Kansas Board of Pharmacy. Specific information about the protocols for these conditions is available here.

Earl L. Mills Educational Trust
Scholarship funds are available from the Earl Mills Educational Trust to deserving physicians who meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must have practiced in Kansas continuously for at least a five-year period and may not be a member of a medical group of more than five practicing physicians.
- Funds may be used for study in medicine of health care for a period of at least four months, but no more than one year, at an approved institution.
